Singing a new Song

Sometimes I forget that it is important to just sing.  For those of you who may know me this probably seems incomprehensible.  I spent years and years and years honing in my vocal technique - so I could not just sing - but sing well.  When I do sing my spirit is lifted and my whole body responds.  Perhaps I was studying how to sing not so much for other people but more for myself. The exhilaration - anticipation - and adrenaline of singing well for others is an unique experience that sometimes feels other worldly.

So when did I forget to continue to sing for myself?  Was it along this path of singing perfectly?  Was it when I decided to change careers?  Maybe it was a combination of all these things along the way but the truth is I need to sing.  Not because other people want to use me but because it is a gift that God has given me to share with others.  It is a gift that lifts my spirits and the people I come in contact with.  Singing creates a community of people through our music.  When I forget this is when I struggle.

My challenge now is to continue to remember this.  Regardless of how I am feeling or what is going on in my day - I need to sing for a minimum of 15 minutes.  If not for anyone else then for the glory of God and for my own self care.  Are there things in your life that motivate you and help you move forward that you forget to do?  What helps you to remember to do them?  Whether it is singing, running, biking, meditation, etc I hope you can find a way to continue this life giving activity in your life too! It's time for me to sing a  new song - a song of self care, a song of praise, and a song of thanksgiving. Sing - Sing a Song!

Songs for Sophia Launch

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we actually sat down and reflected about what we do in it? We could paint the world a new color.  One that reflects respects and open dialogue. It is my hope that this blog will be a place to begin conversations about the world, music, books, film, theatre and whatever else strikes my fancy from a theological perspective.  I invite you to begin this conversation with me!
